Washington, DC – U.S. Reps John Hall (D-NY), Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), Jim Marshall (D-GA) and Todd Tiahrt (R-KS) today introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives congratulating the United States Military Academy at West Point on being named by Forbes magazine as America's Best College for 2009. All four Congressmen serve on the Board of Visitors for the U.S. Military Academy at West Point that provides advice on academics and academy life issues.

Congressman John Hall, whose Congressional District includes West Point, said, "The U.S. Military Academy at West Point is a national treasure and a jewel of the Hudson Valley, forging today's heroes and tomorrow's leaders. I am so proud to represent West Point in Congress and am glad it is getting the nationwide recognition it so rightly deserves as a college of excellence."

"West Point has long distinguished itself as a leading educational institution," Congressman Hinchey said. "The academy is a staple in the Hudson Valley community and I am very pleased that it received this much-deserved recognition as the nation's best college.  The success of its students and alumni speaks volumes about the academy's commitment to excellence."

Congressman Tiahrt said, "For centuries, West Point has maintained a superior level of academics and discipline that has produced some of our nation's finest leaders, including two presidents. It is a great honor to be a Board of Visitors member for this outstanding military and academic institution that excels in offering a well-rounded educational experience. Congratulations to West Point Academy leadership, faculty and cadets for receiving this national recognition."

In addition to the Forbes magazine ranking as America's Best College, West Point also received commendation from U.S. News & World Report who named West Point as the Best Public Liberal Arts College in the United States and has consistently rated West Point's undergraduate engineering program as among the best in the country.

The Congressional Resolution also states support for West Point's mission to "educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets so that each graduate is a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of Duty, Honor, Country and prepared for a career of professional excellence and service to the Nation as an officer in the United States Army."
