Hall Tours Economic Recovery Project Site to Protect Fishkill Creek, Create Jobs
October 5, 2009
- Project will Retrofit Beekman and East Fishkill Town Halls, While Creating or Saving 25 Jobs in Hudson Valley -

Hopewell Junction, NY – U.S. Rep John Hall joined local officials today to tour the East Fishkill Town Hall, one of two Hudson Valley sites that will together be receiving $330,100 in recently announced American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding that Hall helped secure. The federal funding will go towards retrofitting the East Fishkill and Beekman Town Hall stormwater systems to protect Fishkill Creek, while at the same time creating good paying jobs in Dutchess County. Hall was joined by East Fishkill Town Supervisor John Hickman, Beekman Town Supervisor John Adams, and Ed Hoxsie, manager of the Dutchess County Soil and Water District. This site is one of New York’s Green Innovation Projects that will reduce energy costs, conserve water and promote green infrastructure throughout the state.

Following brief remarks, Congressman Hall joined Ed Hoxsie and the town supervisors in touring the East Fishkill Town Hall project area, discussing in detail the construction planned.

Dutchess County Soil and Water estimates that these projects will create or save 25 jobs in Hudson Valley. The $330,100 in federal funding comes from the Recovery Act and goes toward retrofitting the Beekman and East Fishkill town halls buildings' stormwater systems, through the construction of bioretention and infiltration areas on site. The funding will be administered by a cooperative agreement between the Dutchess County Soil and Water Conservation District and the towns of East Fishkill and Beekman.

Beyond the 25 jobs created and saved directly, the project will prompt the local purchase of piping, asphalt, concrete and other building materials, which will create additional stimulus to the local economy.

"This Recovery Act funding creates jobs in Dutchess County while upgrading two municipal buildings and protecting Fishkill Creek," said Congressman Hall. "We're putting Hudson Valley residents back to work, while guarding our precious natural resources."
