Washington, DC – The U.S. House of Representatives today passed U.S. Rep. John Hall's (D-Dover) legislation honoring 1st Lieutenant Louis Allen by naming the Chester Post Office after him. H.R. 2877, sponsored by Congressman Hall, would designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 76 Brookside Avenue in Chester, NY as the "1st Lieutenant Louis Allen Post Office." Hall's legislation earned the support of the entire New York State Congressional Delegation. The bill now moves to the U.S. Senate for consideration before it becomes law. The Senate is expected to pass the bill.

"Lou Allen was a pillar of his community and a model National Guardsman," Congressman Hall said on the House floor. "Renaming this Post Office is not about mourning Lou’s death, but about celebrating his life."

Allen joined the New York National Guard in 2000 and was deployed to New York City to help respond to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. When he was not serving his country, he was serving his community as a science teacher at George F. Baker High School in Tuxedo. Lt. Allen was killed in Iraq in 2005 by a mine explosion. He was 34 years old. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and their four young sons, Trevor, Colin, Sean, and Jeremy, his parents, Bob and Vivian, and his siblings. The Allen family urges those who would like to help to visit www.louallenmemorial.com to learn more about what can be done to help remember Lou and continue his life's dedication to helping others.
